What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese word which mean Universal Life Energy, an energy which is all around us.

The Usui system based on an ancient Tibetan Buddhist technique, developed in Japan in the late 19th or early 20th century by Dr Mikao Usui (1865–1926).

Reiki traditionally is a hands on form of natural energy healing, however a hands off approach can also be taken depending on the clients preference.

How does Reiki work?

Reiki is the spiritual life force, or vital spiritual energy, said to reside in all living things so this is a therapy in which the therapist channels this energy from him or herself into the patient by the gentle laying on of hands, to activate the natural healing processes of the client’s body and restore physical and emotional well-being.

This healing is safe, gentle and can be very powerful. It will help your body self heal and also works on every level to balance body, mind and spirit.

People often describe their healing session as being wonderfully relaxing and that they can feel a lovely warmth.

What happens in a Reiki Session?

During a session you will be asked to lie down on a therapy bed but will not be asked to remove any clothing except for things which could restrict your breathing or comfort.

Treatment is given by the positioning of  hands gently on or over your body in a pre-determined sequence of hand positions, spending several minutes holding each position. These hand positions are non-intrusive, can cover both the front and back of the body and are sometimes varied to give Reiki energy to areas where it is specifically needed.

You may feel sensations such as heat, tingling, coolness or throbbing under the practitioners’ hands as the energy flows, or in other parts of your body, or you may feel very little. Most commonly people experience a sense of well being, calm and relaxation,  fall asleep or feel energized during. There is no right or wrong way to experience Reiki.
